Welcome to the
 Janus Education Alliance

A partnership between Denver Public Schools and Janus

Janus Capital Group Inc. is a global investment firm offering strategies that employ a research intensive approach that is distinct within its respective asset class. The Janus Foundation was formed in 1994 as the primary charitable giving arm of Janus. Steeped in its history is a dedication to education. In its origins, the Foundation offered the promise of four-year college scholarships to select at-risk youth who were identified in the eighth grade.

The Foundation also provided a variety of grants to various nonprofit organizations with the emphasis on serving disadvantaged children. As the company and the Foundation grew, three primary areas of giving were identified: At-Risk Youth through Education and Community Service and Volunteerism, both of which were national in scope, and Cultural Institutions in the Denver metro area. From 2001–2006, the Foundation awarded more than 1,600 grants totaling over $17 million to deserving U.S. nonprofits within these three areas of focus.

Janus believes that a strong that a strong educational system makes a strong community. In 2007, Janus saw the national education reform movement gain significant momentum and wanted to focus and share their financial and intellectual resources to help Denver Public Schools advance the quality and effectiveness of its teachers, thereby improving student outcomes at all levels.

To meet this need, the Janus Education Alliance (JEA) was formed. Their unprecedented three-year $3 million gift is helping to boost student achievement by investing in DPS teachers at the most critical stage of their careers - the early years. Specifically, the JEA is designed to:

  • Attract the best and brightest teachers and mid-career changers to DPS while elevating and building pride in the teaching profession
  • Create development opportunities and a career ladder to retain the best faculty
  • Ensure that every child receives an exceptional education
  • Position DPS as a national leader in education
